On 15 August 2003, the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, sent a letter to His Holiness, Patriarch Aleksei II of Moscow and All Russia, informing His Holiness of the activities of Her Imperial Highness’s Chancellery.

In January of this year and on my initiative, my Chancellery was registered with the state and received the status of a legal entity on the territory of the Russian Federation. One of the most important goals of the Chancellery is supporting continuous contacts with the Russian Orthodox Church and to work together with It in all appropriate instances.

I ask Your Holiness to bless the accreditation of my Chancellery in the person of my personal secretary and the director of the Chancellery, Alexander Nikolaevich Zakatov, and the principal coordinator of our visits to Russia, Prince Vadim Olegovich Lopukhin, recognizing them as persons charged to carry out official liaison with the Russian Orthodox Church.
