PMR-Inform: The Director of the Chancellery of the Russian Imperial House Visits Transdniestria
December 4 /PMR-Inform/. Today, the Director of the Chancellery of the Russian Imperial House, Alexander Zakatov, met with the President of the Transdniestrian Republic of Moldova, Evgenii Shevchuk, in the presidential residence, as reported by the President’s Press Service.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the preparations currently under way for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanoff, which are scheduled to coincide with the date of the coronation of Tsar Mikhail Romanov on June 11 (1613). Also discussed were the various activities of the Russian Imperial House in the Russian Federation.
The Director of the Chancellery of the Russian Imperial House expressed his hope for the resumption of the close and fruitful contacts that the Russian Imperial House and the Transdniestrian Republic of Moldova had enjoyed during the past several years. According to Zakatov, these fruitful contacts were based on close collaboration in social, cultural, and charitable activities.
Alexander Zakatov expressed his hope that pathways would be found to an even more intensive and productive level of cooperation. Doing so would, he is convinced, serve the common interests of both sides, promoting the unity of the citizenry of the country on the basis of love for the historical values of their common homeland.
General Background Information from PMR-Inform. As part of the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanoff, official events will be scheduled in Kostroma, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhnii Novgorod, Volgograd, Ekaterinburg, and in other cities and regions of the Russian Federation.
As is well-known from history, Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov was called to the throne by the Assembly of the Land while he was in hiding with his mother at the Ipat’evskii Monastery in Kostroma during the Time of Troubles. His coronation took place on June 11, 1613, in the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin—an event that ushered in the reign of the new Romanoff dynasty.
In an ironic twist of fate, the last ruler of the House of Romanoff, Nicholas II, was killed at the hands of Bolshevik executioners in the so-called Ipat’ev House in Ekaterinburg.
