Below is the letter sent by Her Imperial Highness:
FROM THE HEAD OF THE IMPERIAL HOUSE OF RUSSIA
To:
R. I. Ozdoev
Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Congress “The First World War in History and Art – the ‘Wild Division’ – Unity and Courage”
Dear Ruslan Islamovich,
Thank you for your letter of August 9, 2024, inviting me to attend the International Congress “The First World War in History and Art – the ‘Wild Division’ – Unity and Courage.”
The hard lessons of the Revolution of 1917 and the tragedies of the interethnic conflicts that occurred during the fall of the USSR, with all their consequences, compel us to make a special effort to strengthen the friendship between the fraternal peoples who live in the civilizational space of the former Russian Empire.
The foundation of true unity among these peoples in this space is the preservation of the historical memory of our cooperation and of the collective defense we once offered to our common homeland, and the cultural exchange among all the peoples of this space today.
I am convinced that the International Congress “The First World War in History and Art. ‘The Wild Division’ - Unity and Valor” will offer an important contribution to the preservation of interreligious, interethnic and civil peace in Russia, ensuring its security and helping to preserve its traditional spiritual and moral values.
I am pleased that you have particularly noted the service of the commander of the “Wild Division,” Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, a distinguished member of Our House, who accepted a martyr’s death during the new Time of Troubles. I remember warmly my 2012 visit to Ingushetia, where a magnificent monument to the Grand Duke and his glorious brothers-in-arms was dedicated in Nazran.
Unfortunately, circumstances do not permit me to come to Moscow on this occasion, but I am fully with you in spirit and prayer.
Please extend my warmest wishes for the health, success, and God’s blessing to all the participants of the International Congress.
My son and heir, Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, Princess Victoria Romanovna, join me in wishing you all a successful gathering.
With warm regards and best wishes,
MARIA
H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia
