2024-08-19 MEMORY ETERNAL! Tamaz Jandieri (1941-2024)

The Chancellery of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, is deeply saddened to announce the death in Moscow on 19 August 2024, the Feast Day of the Transfiguration of the Lord, of Tamaz Ilich Jandieri (in holy baptism, Konstantin). Tamaz Jandieri was the President of the Russian-Georgian Friendship Society “Dzalisa,” and a member of the Imperial and Royal Order of St. Stanislav (III Class) and the Imperial Order of St. Anna (III Class).

 

Tamaz Jandieri was born on 3 June 1941 in Tiflis. In 1967, he graduated from the Tbilisi Pedagogical Institute, and, beginning that same year, was a soloist of the Georgian State Philharmonic. In 1970 he moved to Moscow, and from 1974 was a soloist of Mosconcert.

 

In 1985, Tamaz Jandieri created a civic organization, whose purpose was to help preserve monuments of Russian and Georgian history and culture. In 1990, he became the warden (starosta) of the restored Church of the Holy Great Martyr and Victory-Bearer George in the Georgian Quarter (v Gruzinakh). In 1991, he founded the Orthodox Brotherhood of the Holy Great Martyr and Victory-Bearer George and the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles St. Nina, the Enlightener of Georgia. He served as the warden of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the town of Starodub, in the Kashira District of the Moscow Region (1993); and in 1999, he founded the Russian-Georgian Friendship Society “Dzalisa.” In 2013, he founded the Fund for Spiritual and Cultural Enlightenment “Dzalisa,” of which Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria of Russia became the patron in 2015.

In recognition of Tamaz Jandieri’s significant contributions to the Church and the nation, the Head of the Imperial House of Russia awarded him the Imperial and Royal Order of St. Stanislav, III Class (2016) and the Imperial Order of St. Anna, III Class (2021).

 

Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, her son and heir, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, H.S.H. Princess Victoria Romanovna, pray for the repose of the soul of Tamaz Jandieri, and extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends.
