2024-08-16 MEMORY ETERNAL! Nikolai Alexandrovich Pavlov (1951-2024)

The Chancellery of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, is deeply saddened to announced the death on 16 August 2024 of Nikolai Alexandrovich Pavlov, a Deputy of the Fourth Convocation of the State Duma of the Federation Council (2003-2007), a published and established scholar in the Biological Sciences, and a member of the Imperial Order of St. Anna (II Class).

Nikolai Alexandrovich Pavlov was born on 30 June 1951 in the Yaroslavl region, into a family of rural doctors. In 1961, his family moved to Tyumen. In 1978, he graduated from the Department of Biology of Tyumen State University. He defended his PhD dissertation in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) and began teaching at Tyumen University. In 1990, he was elected as a People’s Deputy of the RSFSR, and then was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. He served as a member of the Commission on National and State Structures and Interethnic Relations of the Council of Nationalities of the Supreme Soviet, and as Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet’s Committee on Women’s Affairs, and the Protection of Families, Mothers, and Children. Nikolai Alexandrovich was one of the seven RSFSR deputies who voted on 12 December 1991 at a session of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR against the ratification of the Belovezha Accords declaring the end of the USSR and the creation of the CIS. He participed in the tragic events in Moscow in October 1993 on the side of the Supreme Soviet, was in the “White House” (Belyi Dom) during its storming on 4 October 4 1993. He later served as a Deputy of the State Duma of the IV convocation (2003-2007). He was the author of more than 40 academic publications.

 

The Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, awarded him the Imperial Order of St. Anna, II Class (2022), in recognition of this many public service and academic contributions to the nation.

 

The Grand Duchess, her son and heir, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, H.S.H. Princess Victoria Romanovna, pray for the repose of the soul of Nikolai Alexandrovich, and extend their deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

 

Grant, O Lord, eternal rest to the soul of Thy newly-reposed servant Nikolai, and make his memory be eternal!
