November 4, 2020, marks the 85th anniversary of the birth of the noted Russian historian, archivist, expert in source studies, educator, professor, and, from 1992 to 1996, Director of the Historical Archival Institute of the Russian State Humanities University, Evgenii Vasilievich Starostina.
All of Evgenii Vasilievich’s former students, among whom is the Director of the Chancellery of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia, Dr. Alexander N. Zakatov, remember with fondness and gratitude his wise and kind, and at the same time rigorous and demanding mentoring, his inspiring lectures, and his unique and ready wit.
In his many and varied academic activities over a lifetime, E. V. Starostin made an enormous contribution to the study of the history and archival heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Imperial House of Russia.
May the Lord grant rest to the soul of His departed servant Evgenii in His Heavenly Abode, and may his memory be eternal!
