The Chancellery of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, with enormous sadness, announces the passing on November 1, 2020, of Nikolai Kirillovich Maksiuta from complications of coronavirus.

Nikolai Kirillovich Maksiuta was the governor of the Volgograd Region from 1997 to 2010.  In 2003, he warmly welcomed Grand Duchess Maria of Russia during her visit to the area (http://imperialhouse.ru/en/allnews-en/news/590.html). He was always supportive of and respected the activities of the Imperial House of Russia and other organizations working collaboratively with it.  N.K. Maksiuta had been a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, representing the Volgograd Region.

For his services to the nation, the Head of the Imperial House of Russia awarded him the Imperial Military Order of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Second Class, and the Imperial Order of St. Anna Second Class.

The Grand Duchess and her son and heir, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia, extend their deepest sympathy to Nikolai Kirillovich’s family and friends.
