The Chancellery of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia is deeply saddened to announce the death on May 1, 2020, of Rabbi Zinovy L’vovich Kogan (1941-2020). Rabbi Kogan was the Vice-President for Relations with State and Public Organizations of the Congress of Jewish Religious Communities and Organizations in Russia (KEROOR), and a member of the Expert Group for Advancing Legislation in the Sphere of Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations, which is part of the Expert Council of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation for the Advancement of Civil Society and Issues Relating to Social and Religious Associations. He was 79 years old.
Rabbi Kogan was a bright, talented, and kind person and a true patriot of Russia. He met many times at events hosted or sponsored by the Russian Orthodox Church with the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, and her son and heir H.I.H. the Tsesarevich and Grand Duke George of Russia, and they always showed each other the deepest and most sincere respect. For his many accomplishments and years of services to the country, Grand Duchess Maria of Russia awarded Rabbi Kogan the Imperial hereditary medal “In memory of the 400th anniversary of the Romanoff dynasty,” which Grand Duke George, at the behest of his mother, personally presented to him in 2014.
Their Imperial Highnesses extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Rabbi Kogan. Members of the Imperial Chancellery likewise send their heartfelt condolences.
