The Head of the House of Romanoff expresses her condolences on the passing of the Honorary Marshall of the Moscow Nobility Association, S. A. Sapozhnikov

FROM THE HEAD OF THE RUSSIAN IMPERIAL HOUSE

To Mrs. V. A. Blagovo,

It was with genuine sorrow that I learned of the passing of your husband.

I very much valued the loyalty Sergei Alekseevich displayed for Our House, his many efforts to preserve and develop the best traditions of the Russian nobility, and the work you both do and did in the academic and cultural spheres.

Sergei Alekseevich Sapozhnikov was at the forefront of the rebirth of the nobility and, more generally, of the traditionalist movement in Russia.  He devoted a great deal of time and energy to memorializing the heroes of the War of 1812 and other wars, to genealogical research, and to educational programs.  In the last years of his life, when he occupied the position of Honorary Marshall of the Moscow Nobility Association, Sergei Alekseevich remained a deeply respected and beloved model for many of his countrymen, who, thanks to him, acquired a new appreciation for the history of our great country.

I and my son and heir, the Grand Duke George of Russia, extend to you, to your daughters, and to all your family and friends, our deepest condolences.

May the Lord grant his servant Sergei a place in the abode of the righteous.

H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria of Russia
