Declaration Of the Head of the Russian Imperial House H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Concerning the Seizure of Hostages by Terrorists In the School in the Town of Beslan on 1 September 2004

Declaration Of the Head of the Russian Imperial House H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Concerning the Seizure of Hostages by Terrorists In the School in the Town of Beslan on 1 September 2004

The latest criminal act by international terrorists—the seizure of hostages in the school in the town of Beslan—fills Our heart with anguish and rage. This crime against children, and against their parents and their teachers, committed on the day of celebrating the opening of the school year, calls for more than just our indignation. Such an act contradicts human nature itself and clearly demonstrates that modern civilization is in a struggle with a depth of evil that would horrify even the barbarian tribes of ancient antiquity

I believe that the proper punishment will come to these fanatics who have nothing good in their soul, and that their names will forever remain cursed and scorned by all people, regardless of their national or religious affiliations.

I pray for the repose of the souls of all who have fallen victim to this monstrous terrorist act and for all who gave their lives trying to save the hostages. I send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who have perished.

H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna
