The Head of the Russian Imperial House Establishes the Romanoff Prize

In honor of the 400th anniversary of the ending of the Time of Troubles and of the reestablishment of the Russian state by the Church Council and Assembly of the Land of 1613, the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, has created the Romanoff Prize.

The Chairman of the Selection Committee for the Romanoff Prize is the writer and historian SviatoslavRybas, who also is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.

The first Laureates of the Romanoff Prize have been announced: Leo Bokeria—Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of the Russian Academy of Medical Arts, and Director of the A. N. Bakulev Center of Cardiovascular Surgery: for achievement in the field of Russian medicine; IuriiSolomin—People’s Artist of the USSR and Art Director of the Malyi Theater: for achievements in the field of Russian theatrical arts; Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov)—the abbot of Sretenskii Monastery: for his significant contributions to Russian letters; PavelPozhigailo—the Chairman of the Foundation for the Study of the Legacy of P. A. Stolypin: for his initiative and leadership in erecting a monument to Peter Stolypin; and collectively to the Russian State Library (President: V. V. Fedorov; and General Director: A. I. Vislyi): for the preservation and expansion of Russian cultural values.

The award ceremony will take place during Her Imperial Highness’s visit to Russia in March.
