The Head of the House of Romanoff and Her Son, the Tsesarevich, Take Part in the Celebrations of the 60-th Birthday of King Fouad II of Egypt

On January 14-15, 2012, the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Wladimirovna, and H.I.H. the Heir, Tsesarevich, and Grand Duke GeorgiiMikhailovich, took part in celebrations in Lausanne (Switzerland) for the sixtieth birthday of His Majesty King Fouad II of Egypt. The grand duchess and the grand duke were accompanied on this trip to Lausanne by S. Bule, an advisor for international affairs in H.I.H.’s Chancellery.

King Fouad II of Egypt and Sudan was born on January 16, 1952 in Cairo. On July 26 of that year, he inherited the throne after a military coup and the abdication of his father, King Farouk. On June 18, 1953, revolutionaries declared Egypt a republic, and the royal family was forced into exile.
