2022-08-04 A Prayer Service on the Name Day of the Head of the House of Romanoff

On August 4, 2022, the Feast Day of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene and the name day of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, a prayer service was held after the Divine Liturgy for the health of Her Imperial Highness and her family in the Mission Church of the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the Church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers.

The service was officiated by Mitered Archpriest Mikhail Protopopov, a senior cleric of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad of the Moscow Patriarchate, who arrived in Moscow from Australia; and by Fr. Alexander Khalatov, the parish priest of the Church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers; Hieromonk Nikon (Levachev-Belavenets), the Purser of the Smolensk Zosima Hermitage and the head of the Office for Historical and Memorial Activities of Her Imperial Highness’s Chancellery; and Deacon Alexei Kulikov.

 

Archpriest Mikhail Protopopov gave a sermon on the life of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene and on the service to the nation and Holy Church of her namesake, the Head of the Russian Imperial House of Romanoff, Grand Duchess Maria of Russia.

 

After the services, the Director of Her Imperial Highness’s Chancellery, Alexander N. Zakatov, and the King of Arms of the Chancellery, Stanislaw V. Dumin, read several proclamations from Her Imperial Highness creating several new knights of the Imperial Oder of St. Anna.

 

Mitered Archpriest Mikhail Alexeevich Protopopov was awarded the Imperial Order of St. Anna First Class; Alexander Borisovich Kravchenko, the head of the Office for Philanthropic Activities of the Chancellery, was awarded the Order in the Second Class; Alexander Vladimirovich Kulemin, the President of the Board for the organization “For Faith and Fatherland,” Alexei Pavlovich Maslov, a member of the Board of “For Faith and Fatherland,” and Boris Georgievich Domatovsky, a well-known and successful photographer and journalist—all were awarded the Order in the Third Class.

 

After the investiture ceremony, all those gathered for the services attended a celebratory luncheon, during which Fr. Alexander Khalatov spoke about the enormous spiritual and historical significance of the service of the Russian Imperial House in the past and in the present.
