2022-02-16 Tsesarevich George of Russia and Princess Victoria Romanovna Visited the Oldest Chess Grand Master in the World, Iurii Lvovich Averbakh, Congratulating Him on his 100th Birthday

On February 16 (February 3 according to the Julian Calendar), the Orthodox Church commemorates St. Simeon the God-Receiver and the Prophetess Anna. This day is also the feast day for all knights of the Imperial Order of St. Anna.

 

This year, on the Feast of the Order of St. Anna, the Heir of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, H.S.H. Princess Victoria Romanovna, accompanied by Hieromonk Nikon (Levachev-Belavenets), the head of the Office for Historical and Commemorative Activities of the Chancellery of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia, visited the oldest knight of any of the Russian Imperial Orders, the Chess Champion of the USSR and Grand Master, Iurii Lvovich Averbakh.

 

Iurii Lvovich turned 100 years old on February 8, 2022.

 

His Imperial Highness and Her Serene Highness warmly congratulated Iurii Lvovich on his birthday, and brought him a personal gift to mark the occasion.
